| 28/04/2011 | Hartpury Novice Indoor Show Jumping - Sunday 3rd April 2011
Cambridge Riding Club Juniors competed in the BRC Novice Indoor Show Jumping Championships at Hartpury on Sunday 3rd April. The team consisted of Emma Butler on Ben, Will Anthony on Widget, Rachel Dyke on Langamay Elle and Rebecca Page on Juno. The competition consists of two rounds, and the course was a real test of rider skill. After the first round there were only two teams on a zero score, out of the 29 teams taking part, and one of those was our Cambridge team. We walked the course for the second round of the competition, thinking that we as a club were in a very strong position. However, sadly our luck did not hold out in the second round, and we had a few fences down, which sent us from 1st place to 10th. Congratulations to the team for a very good result, and many thanks to Gill, Chris, Audrey, Sarah, Judi and Nicola for all the help and support and for making the weekend so much fun for us all. |

The British Horse Society has launched a dedicated horse accidents website designed to provide statistics and data which will be used to lobby the Government for better riding conditions. The website www.horseacccidents.org.uk is to provide anyone involved in an equine-related incident with an easily accessible method of reporting it. Currently, an equestrian-related road incident may go unrecorded unless a human is injured and taken to hospital for treatment from the scene of the accident, thus statistics are poor. Initially, the website will record road traffic incidents concerning ridden and driven horses, incidents involving low flying aircraft, road surface dressings, dangerous dogs, fireworks, wind turbines, and issues with gates. There is provision to add other concerns as they are identified. If you or your friends have fallen victims to any such incidents, the BHS need your help; sharing your experiences could make a huge difference to all riders. BHS want to hear about near misses too. Accurate statistics are essential in order to enable them to lobby government for better conditions for equestrians – BHS can only campaign when they have sufficient information to carry forward concerns. |

The local Wildlife Trust have pointed out their site www.cutandchew.org.uk contains a lot of useful information relevant to anyone who has to manage their grazing fields and/or makes hay (or buys or sells hay) - which is rather a lot of us! In fact a great deal of useful info all round for horse keepers in almost any situation (fencing, feed suppliers, transport - lots of stuff). |
The Cambridge & District Riding Club is ................
A British Horse Society affiliated club whose aims are
a) to encourage riding as a sport and recreation, to promote good fellowship amongst riders and to improve and maintain the standard of riding and horsemanship;
b) to organise instructional meetings, lectures and competitive events, and other activities deemed to further the Objects;
c) to support and co-operate with recognised organisations interested in the breeding and use of all types and breeds of horses and ponies;
d) to investigate, define and maintain bridle tracks and rights of way ;
e) to concern itself with any subject that will benefit the horse and horse user in the district.
C&DRC is essentially a friendly platform from where members can meet likeminded people with whom to compete, train, watch or discuss horse matters.
We run our own club Show in the spring, and a winter Indoor Dressage Competition series. As a BHS affiliated club we are able to send teams to Area Qualifiers in all (or at least most) disciplines. These are run to a high and consistent standard, and the winners progress to prestigious National Finals. We encourage members to participate in our teams, but do not apply pressure on performance.
We offer good value group training sessions with a number of instructors at venues through the county, and at all levels of ability.
Although traditionally aimed at the "seniors" (17years and over) , we now have an active, growing and very competitive junior section for members of 12-16 years.
The Club is run by a voluntary committee of elected members, and all profits are used to the benefit of the Club.
Child Protection: The C&DRC follows the BEF recommendations on Child Welfare and Protection. Our Officer is Kerry Simson. Please feel free to contact her in confidence if there are any circumstances for concern.
